Flow - a take pART public art commission for Salmons Brook, Enfield
2002.
|
Site
Specific Artworks created in collaboration with young people from
Cuckoo Hall Primary School and Raynham Primary School Enfield.
The
artwork is made up of two high relief ceramic murals using stoneware
ceramics and glazes.
Sited where the Salmons Brook nature trail appears from a culvert,
it has an overlooking seating
area. Salmons Brook presents itself as a natural oasis in the busy
residential and industrial area
of Edmonton, it affords visitors a moment of peace and escape into
nature. This waterway is very
important to the residents of the area not only as a thoroughfare
but also as a meeting point.
The
content of the tiles was inspired by Salmons Brook and arose from
two school workshops,
The focus of the workshops was on collaboration within art, wherein
the participants learnt how
to derive inspiration from a specific site and make it their own
through refinement and
transformation. They then practised the techniques involved in producing
ceramic reliefs with
each participant making a piece of the final artwork.
